About the Project
EZ.BAH Building Simplified: Mystery of the Failing Building is a scenario-based game learning system developed to support the teaching and learning of Building Services, a technically complex subject involving multiple concealed and interconnected building systems. Building upon an earlier Bronze Award-winning prototype, the enhanced version transforms students into Building Investigators who navigate building spaces, answer discipline-specific knowledge challenges, encounter realistic service-failure events, collect evidence, and apply their knowledge to solve an integrated building mystery. The innovation adopts a Know–Investigate–Apply–Solve learning progression to promote active learning, collaboration, contextual understanding, and problem-solving. Unlike technology-dependent gamification platforms, EZ.BAH is designed as a reusable, low-technology learning kit suitable for face-to-face learning environments. The current functional prototype comprises an interactive game board, EZ.BAH Knowledge Cards, Event Cards, Building Investigator roles, evidence mechanisms, an Investigation Log, and Final Investigation challenges. Following recognition of the initial concept at an international innovation competition in 2025, the enhanced prototype is currently undergoing expert validation prior to student pilot testing and classroom implementation. Its modular design provides potential for adaptation across Building Services topics and wider built-environment and technical education, with future development as a packaged educational learning kit.
