About the Project

Effective oral communication requires not only linguistic proficiency but also the confidence and pragmatic competence to communicate appropriately in different social contexts. However, conventional speaking activities may provide limited opportunities for differentiated language support, constructive feedback, and progressive skill development. Addressing these pedagogical needs, SPEAKTitan is proposed as a scenario-based educational toolkit designed to enhance speaking confidence, oral communication skills, and leadership communication among primary ESL learners. The innovation integrates six interconnected components: Leadership Scenario Cards, the SPEAK Instructional Guide, Differentiated Language Support Cards, Peer Feedback Cards, Hero Progress Passport, and Facilitator Assessment Pack. Central to the toolkit is the five-stage SPEAK framework, comprising 'See the Situation', 'Plan Your Message', 'Express Yourself', 'Assess Your Performance', and 'Keep Improving.' The framework encourages purposeful communication through realistic leadership scenarios, structured language scaffolding, formative feedback, and repeated speaking opportunities. Currently at the conceptual stage, SPEAKTitan is proposed for subsequent prototype development, expert review, and pilot implementation involving primary school pupils. Preliminary evaluation will examine its usability, practicality, and potential educational outcomes. The innovation is anticipated to support more confident, contextually appropriate, and independent communication while offering a practical, reusable, and adaptable instructional resource for ESL educators and student leadership programmes.
