About the Project
Economic development at the district level plays a crucial role in promoting regional competitiveness, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities, and sustainable economic growth. However, economic information is often fragmented across multiple government agencies, making it difficult for policymakers, local authorities, and entrepreneurs to access comprehensive and timely economic insights. The lack of integrated monitoring systems and predictive analytical tools further limits the effectiveness of district-level economic planning and development interventions. To address these challenges, the District Economic Pulse (DEP) is proposed as an innovative, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered economic intelligence and decision support system designed to monitor, analyse, visualise, and predict economic performance at the district level. The platform integrates economic indicators from multiple sources, including business activities, employment trends, entrepreneurship development, sectoral performance, and investment opportunities, into a centralised interactive dashboard. DEP incorporates five key modules: District Economic Dashboard, Economic Opportunity Mapping, AI Economic Prediction, SME and Entrepreneurship Intelligence, and Policy Recommendation Engine. Through AI-driven analytics, interactive geographical mapping, and economic performance indicators, the system aims to identify emerging economic opportunities, assess development gaps, predict potential economic risks, and generate evidence-based policy recommendations. The proposed prototype will be developed using web-based dashboard technologies, data visualisation tools, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and machine learning techniques. Its feasibility and usability can be evaluated through prototype testing, expert validation, and feedback from potential stakeholders. By transforming fragmented economic information into actionable intelligence, DEP is expected to strengthen data-driven decision-making, improve resource allocation, support local entrepreneurs, and promote inclusive and sustainable district economic development. The innovation also offers potential for commercialisation through institutional subscriptions, customised economic dashboards, and analytical services for local authorities and development agencies.
