About the Project

This project presents a Piezoelectric Foot Energy Generator designed to convert mechanical energy from human footsteps into electrical energy. The system uses piezoelectric sensors that generate an electrical charge when pressure is applied to them. The generated electrical energy is then processed through a rectifier (bridge rectifier) to convert AC voltage into DC voltage and stabilized using a capacitor before being monitored and controlled by an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The system demonstrates how energy that is normally wasted through everyday human movement can be harvested and utilized for low-power applications such as LEDs, sensors, and other small electronic systems. This innovation can potentially be implemented in high-traffic areas such as schools, shopping malls, train stations, and public spaces. Although the amount of energy generated from individual footsteps is relatively small, combining a large number of footsteps can provide a useful supplementary source of renewable energy. The project promotes awareness of energy harvesting and demonstrates how simple technological innovations can contribute to more sustainable and smarter environments. It is a good approach to encourage walking despite the car-centric infrastructures of Malaysia.
