About the Project
FreshGuardAI is an automated, edge-to-cloud IoT monitoring and spoilage detection system designed to eliminate perishable food losses across cold-chain logistics and commercial refrigeration. Traditional cold-chain facilities rely primarily on threshold temperature sensors, failing to detect biochemical breakdown or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released during the onset of food spoilage. FreshGuardAI bridges this gap through a multi-sensory telemetry node anchored by an ESP32-S3 microcontroller paired with dedicated gas and environmental probe arrays. The device continuously streams telemetry—including ambient temperature, relative humidity, and VOC levels—to a reactive monitoring dashboard deployed on Vercel with Tailwind CSS. Telemetry spikes are evaluated by an AI inference engine powered by the Google Gemini API, which cross-analyzes gas composition curves against thermodynamic storage baselines to calculate real-time spoilage probabilities and predict shelf-life degradation hours before visible decay occurs. Automated webhook alerts notify inventory managers instantaneously via mobile channels if safe storage parameters are breached, enabling immediate preventative diversion. By uniting low-cost embedded hardware with multimodal predictive intelligence, FreshGuardAI provides commercial storage operators, logistics distributors, and school canteens with an accessible, high-precision food preservation solution that prevents inventory spoilage, cuts commercial waste, and improves supply-chain food security.
