Ginger Waste as Heavy Metal Remover

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia

About the Project

This study investigates the potential of ginger waste as a low-cost and sustainable adsorbent for removing heavy metals from wastewater. Ginger waste, an agricultural by-product, contains natural functional groups that may facilitate the adsorption of heavy metal ions. The material will be processed, dried, and ground into powder before being used in adsorption experiments. The removal efficiency will be evaluated under different experimental conditions, including adsorbent dosage, contact time, pH, and initial metal concentration. The adsorption performance will be assessed by determining the percentage of heavy metal removal and adsorption capacity. The expected findings will demonstrate the potential of ginger waste as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative for wastewater treatment, while promoting agricultural waste valorisation.
