INTERVIU: An AI-Powered Personalised Mock Interview Trainer for Internship Readiness

University students often enter internship interviews with limited opportunities for realistic practice, personalised feedback, and continuous performance monitoring. Conventional preparation methods, including static question lists and peer-based practice, may not adapt to specific job roles or individual competency levels. To address this challenge, INTERVIU was developed as an artificial intelligence-powered mobile mock interview trainer that provides flexible, personalised, and accessible internship interview preparation. INTERVIU enables students to select an internship role and competency level, practise answering AI-generated interview questions through text or speech-to-text input, and receive immediate scores, feedback, identified strengths and weaknesses, and improvement suggestions. Students can also review their interview history and monitor their progress across multiple sessions. An integrated administrative module supports user management, system monitoring, performance review, reminders, and selected application settings. The Android prototype was developed using Flutter, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and the Gemini API. Controlled technical evaluation showed that all predefined unit, functional, system, mobile-performance, authentication-related, and database test cases achieved their expected outcomes. Nine AI answer scenarios also matched their intended performance categories, demonstrating consistent differentiation between weak, average, and strong responses within the tested conditions. The innovation offers a scalable approach to independent interview practice while reducing dependence on scheduled face-to-face coaching. Its modular design provides potential for adaptation by universities, career centres, training providers, and employability programmes. INTERVIU therefore represents a practical digital solution for supporting more personalised, systematic, and accessible internship interview preparation.
