About the Project

Drug abuse among children and adolescents remains a significant public health and social concern in Malaysia, threatening the well-being of future generations and placing increasing pressure on families, communities, and government agencies. Although various prevention programmes have been implemented, community leaders often lack practical resources and structured guidance to identify vulnerable children, engage families, and coordinate early intervention. This limitation reduces the effectiveness of community-based prevention initiatives despite the influential role of local leaders in promoting child safety and community well-being. Therefore, this innovation aims to develop the “Love the Future Generation” e-Toolkit, a practical and user-friendly resource that empowers community leaders to strengthen child protection against drug abuse through prevention, early identification, family engagement, community mobilisation, and referral support. The toolkit integrates four components: a community leader guidebook, early risk identification checklist, family engagement guide and referral directory. Its novelty lies in integrating these evidence-based components into a single toolkit tailored to the Malaysian community context, enabling community leaders to implement coordinated and proactive drug prevention strategies. The innovation is expected to enhance community resilience, improve the early identification of at-risk children, strengthen collaboration among families, schools, government agencies, and local organisations, and contribute to national drug prevention efforts. The toolkit also demonstrates commercialization potential through professional training programmes, institutional licensing, consultancy services, and digital adaptation for use by government agencies, schools, non-governmental organisations, and community-based organisations, supporting wider implementation and long-term sustainability.
