About the Project

The project titled Mind Matters: Immersive AI for Counselling Practice is designed to enhance the learning experience of students in the Master of Counselling programme, specifically under the course COU73004 Human Development Across Life Span. This initiative aims to develop students’ reflective skills in conducting developmental activities through an innovative virtual platform. The Mind Matters: Immersive AI for Counselling Practice was developed in response to several pressing needs in counselling education and is aligned with national directives to strengthen mental health training in Malaysia. This innovation supports both pedagogical transformation and professional readiness in line with the standards set by the Malaysian Board of Counsellors (Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia, LKM) and the National Strategic Plan for Mental Health 2020–2025. Through this project, students improved their knowledge retention by applying key developmental and psychopathological theories more effectively. Their confidence in managing counselling sessions also increased, with noticeable growth in both verbal and non-verbal communication. Furthermore, they built stronger therapeutic alliances by adapting empathy, tone, and body language during simulated sessions. In addition, their therapeutic interventions became more accurate and theory-informed, moving beyond generic responses to precise and contextually appropriate techniques.
