MODEL OF MIMEI-124

About the Project

The mitosis and meiosis topics are found in both Form Four’s Biology and Form Four’s Science. Most teachers teach these topics using chalk and talk method or they using animation’s videos of mitosis and meiosis. Students are not allowed to do group discussion or hands-on activity due to time constraint. Students find it difficult to understand the process of mitosis and meiosis. To solve the problems, teachers generate the ideas to build a low cost, portable, easy to use and eco-friendly teaching aids – Model of MIMEI-124 (Mitosis & Meiosis) by using recycle materials such as hook-and-loop fastener, fine copper wire, mat board and manila card. The objectives of this innovation teaching aids are (i) to arouse students’ interest and better understanding about mitosis and meiosis process, and (ii) to emphasize an innovative teaching strategy using the durable materials. The methodology of this innovation products is quantitative research using questionnaires to collect answers directly from the sample. The independent variables are the design and the characteristics of Model of MIMEI-124 while the dependent variable is the effectiveness of using Model of E-MIMEI. The expected output is this model will rise up the interest of teachers in teaching and students in learning process. The KSSM syllabus of using this model is Form Four’s Biology (Chapter 6 – Cell Division) and Form Four’s Science (Chapter 5 – Genetic, 5.1 Cell Division). The significance of output is (i) this model increase students’ understanding and interest about process of mitosis and meiosis, (ii) this model is easier for teacher guided the students about the mitosis and meiosis process if compare to traditional teaching aids, (iii) using this model able to save time and convenient and (iv) This model can let the teaching in student-centered and make learning more enjoyable and meaningful.
