Pharma-Regen: A pH-Responsive Bio-Enzymatic Smart Dressing

About the Project

Pharma-Regen is an innovative and two layers smart hydrogel dressing designed to accelerate wound recovery through enzyme delivery. Traditional bandages require frequent changing and cannot adapt to healing stages, whereas Pharma-Regen dynamically responds to the wound's microenvironment. In the early acidic phase (pH 5.5 - 6.5), acid-responsive chitosan outer layer releases lysozyme, DNase, and antioxidant enzymes to eliminate bacterial biofilms and reduce inflammation. As the wound bed transitions to neutral condition (pH 7.2 - 7.6), poly(acrylic acid) core layer activates to release VEGF and tissue-remodeling modulators that stimulate new blood vessel growth and skin regeneration. In addition, with integrated colorimetric pH indicator for visual monitoring, this advanced healthcare initiative while supporting Sustainable Development Goal 3.
