About the Project
Smoking violations in designated smoke-free areas remain a public health concern, highlighting the need for more systematic reporting and monitoring. This innovation introduces SCOPE, an AI-assisted digital platform integrating anonymous public reporting, automated image screening and centralised monitoring. Developed through an iterative five-phase process, SCOPE enables users to submit photographic evidence with geolocation information without creating an account. A Vision Transformer (ViT) model performs preliminary classification of smoking-related images and generates confidence scores to support evidence screening. The administrative dashboard provides report management, geographical hotspot mapping, temporal analysis and data visualisation to support monitoring activities. The developed prototype demonstrates the technical integration of mobile reporting, AI-assisted screening, and spatial-temporal analytics within a unified platform. SCOPE offers a potential solution for safer public participation and data-informed monitoring, while further model validation, usability assessment and stakeholder evaluation are required before wider implementation.
