About the Project

Plastic waste is an increasing environmental concern, while conventional brick production relies on natural resources and energy-intensive processes. Smart Rebrick X was developed by the Seri Makmur Innovibes Fusion team at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Makmur to convert selected plastic waste into an alternative building material. Plastic such as HDPE, LDPE and PP was collected through the school recycling programme and surrounding community, cleaned and dried, cut into small pieces, heated until melted, and mixed with fine sand and cooking oil before being moulded and cooled. The prototype was evaluated through observations of water resistance, physical strength, surface finishing and usability. The innovation produces a lightweight, water-resistant and practical brick while adding value to waste materials. The project supports recycling, STEM learning and sustainability, with potential applications in school landscaping, pathways, fences and community projects. Smart Rebrick X demonstrates a replicable approach for schools and communities seeking practical green innovation.
