About the Project

University students face four persistent challenges throughout their academic journey: excessive consumption of household items leading to post-graduation waste, daily food surplus from campus cafeterias resulting in unnecessary disposal, limited access to flexible income-generating opportunities, and untapped personal skills that remain unmonetized due to time constraints. Current coping mechanisms rely on scattered WhatsApp groups, manual door-to-door selling, and fragmented job postings, all of which are inefficient and unsustainable. To address these interconnected issues, we introduce the TYL ECO HUB UMPSA System, an integrated mobile-first platform designed specifically for university campus communities. The objective is to consolidate four essential student services into a single ecosystem: an AI-powered second-hand marketplace (ECO-Trade), a food rescue network offering meals at RM 3, RM 5, and RM 7 (ECO-Plate), a micro-internship hub with AI talent matching (ECO-Gig), and a skill-barter exchange using a proprietary Eco-Credit currency system. The system employs a modular architecture built on React and a robust RESTful API. The Eco-Credit mechanism creates a self-sustaining "earn-to-spend" model where users earn credits through participation and spend credits to access services. The system implements role-based access controls, real-time order tracking, and automated transaction logging. Practical implementation demonstrates significant reduction in campus waste, measurable student cost savings, and enhanced access to flexible income opportunities. The system is architected with a scalable Software-as-a-Service model for adaptation across other Malaysian universities.
